GLAY. Live. Best Night Ever?

There are a few moments in my life that will assuredly top the list of 'most awesome things to happen to me EVER' list. And, last night, seeing GLAY in San Francisco LIVE IN PERSON is surely going to be near the top.

I went with Vanessa, her sister Emily, and we met our friend Lydia who was in SF already, and we went to the Fillmore in San Fran and we saw my favorite rock group (J-Rock or otherwise)! HISASHI WAS SO CLOSE!!!!

But first, some other stuff. We got to San Fran and we were hungry. We looked at these pathetic 'Japanese Mall' things that had NOTHING worth going to. So we head across the street to New Danny's Restaurant... which is, SERIOUSLY, a bootleg Denny's. The menu is just like Denny's, the pictures are obviously stolen from Denny's and just cropped. The straws say Denny's on them. There was one guy who worked there. One guy. He did everything. Took our orders and MADE OUR FOOD!!!! It was amazing and surreal.

Back to the Japanese mall. Lots of import stuff. Very cute. Very expensive. I could have gotten bootleg seasons of SuperS and Stars, but they were freaking expensive. Plus, they had a korean drama with Eugene. If I wasn't basically dirt poor I would have gotten that shit. Everyone but me got crepes, though we went in two runs, and it took 35 minutes each time. Slowest damned crepes EVER.

Concert. We got to stay against the wall where there was a place to sit down, which was good because Vanessa's leg was hurting and we could still see everything pretty well. Okay, we couldn't see the drummer or the keyboardist, but they're not part of GLAY proper anyway, so it wasn't that big of a deal. They had a shirt for sale, and that was all the merch. True to Japanese style, they don't bother making sizes larger than large. I bought the large anyway, just in case. That was a letdown, the merch situation.

Everything else? Well, not EVERYTHING else, but damn near everything else ruled. They played 19 songs, or they were supposed to according to the guy that said there were 19 songs on the setlist. Since we're not big fans of current GLAY, we didn't know about half of them, but they still rocked the house. The second song was Yuuwaku and we went APESHIT!!! Yuuwaku is my favorite GLAY song, and I wanted them to play that more than anything else. Other songs I know were Soul Love, However, Beautiful Dreamer, Glorious and some others with names I can't remember. They played this HORRIBLE song called Starry Night which basically had no lyrics at all, and it was long. I think it was just to give Teru a chance to rest his vocals, honestly.

But Teru, the singer, brought it. That man is like 40 and he was singing like crazy, plus, he did a mini-strip tease and was jumping around. He only did 4 crouches, which are his trademark, and I was surprised. I said that he was the Japanese Jagger, but he could still work it. Hisashi, my boy, rocked out. Takuro, Vanessa's boy, also rocked, but he didn't look very happy to be there. Jiro, nobody's boy, earned my respect.

I would GLADLY go see them again... but considering it took them 20 years to do a concert in America it'll be awhile...

I'll wait.

After all, Teru said I was family now.

I disagree, my boy Hisashi was the star of the show in MY eyes. Nobody owns that guitar like Hisashi. But Jiro did do very well. I now like him instead of tolerating him. I didn't know he sang. Ever.

WHAT??? How could JIRO not be anyone's boy? He's always been MY boy! Haha thanks for sharing. I love the way you write haha.

In our group there was the Hisashi fan (me), the Takuro fans (Vanessa and Emily) and then Lydia. So, in our group, he was nobody's boy. Neither was Teru, for that matter.

But if you love Jiro, then you love Jiro, and that is something to be respected! Like I said, I now have much more respect for him than I did before.

I was just teasing haha. I'm just happy that more and more people now understand why I love him so much. He indeed deserves respect, especially for stick with them through all of those ballad singles that you know had to kill his soul lmao.

Does anyone know the full setlist at their Fillmore gig? I can't remember it too well, having too much fun rockin out. I recall something like:

Beautiful Dreamer
Starry Night
Giant Faust Superstar
Sorry Love
Shutter Speeds

Soul Love (at first Teru said Sorry Love and corrected himself)
Suffragette City
Acid Head
