Pluto close up

That made up for it...

So, Thursday, the second most important day of the week in regards to television, has given me new episodes of the shows that I watch rather dedicatedly. Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy are a very interesting combination, and they work.

First, Ugly Betty. Last season's finale made me roll my eyes because it was just so over the top that it made me sick to my stomach. But the first episode of the second season? Well, that helped make up for it, somewhat. I'm sad that Santos died. At the same time I'm glad that it didn't have that Moldavian Massacre feeling to it (where it LOOKED like all the important characters were in peril, but the fallout provided nothing), but I'm sad that, of all the characters negatively impacted, Hilda had to be the one who got hit the worst. She's my favorite character in the series, and since she gave birth to that little pest Justin I think she's suffered enough. Judith Light being added to the cast permanently seems to be a very good idea, because she's a wonderful actress and she works well as a foil for Vanessa Williams. I should have known better than to think that Henry would really be gone, but I wanted nothing more than that. Still, the show has recovered from those doubts that I had and I'm officially interested in it.

Now there's Grey's. The show that I have an intense love-hate relationship with. Last season's premiere was quite possibly one of the worst episodes that the series has made to date, because it did next to nothing for me. This premiere? By extension it is one of the best episodes so far. It never dawned on me that the crew would have their own mini-crews to deal with, and though I'm worried about clutter I'm well aware of the fact that no more than a small handful will actually get any sort of development (Lexi and George aside). The Derek/Mark thing has slash fiction written all over it (not that there probably wasn't already plenty to go around), and since it involves Derek I tend to zone out. But the biggest surprise? Yesterday's episode made me respect Izzy just a little bit, something that hasn't happened for a long, long time. It's funny, too, because I'm not a big deer fan. In fact, I hate Bambi and was filled with glee when his mother got it. But I love animals regardless. Then they continue that annoying Izzy/George thing, which will probably just sour me to her again. But for those shining moments I was in her corner.

Is it just me or did Justin Chambers A) Dye his hair darker, or B) is balding? Because there be something funky going on with his hair. But there was a lot of character development going around, and I LOVES me some character development. Next week looks good, too. Diahann Carroll!
